Taijul Islam Eyes Test Captaincy After Najmul Hossain's Uncertainty

Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has expressed his interest in taking on Test captaincy, having played international cricket for 10 years.

With current all-format captain Najmul Hossain unsure about his future leadership, Taijul is among the potential replacements for the role.

Captaincy Ambition

"I'm fully prepared for captaincy," Taijul stated, adding that he wasn't aware of Najmul's plans to quit as captain.

Team Performance Over Noise

Taijul mentioned that some players might be affected by external noise, such as the recent decisions by Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan to quit in the middle of the series. However, he emphasized that the team's performance is the priority.

"This is a team game… We'll do our best to win," he said.

Second Test Focus

Looking to save the series against South Africa, Taijul emphasized the importance of batting responsibility in the second Test.

"Our goal remains the same: we'll play to win… We'll do our best to win," he said.

Building Partnerships

Taijul encouraged the batters to build partnerships in the second Test, highlighting the potential for a big score if they can achieve this.

"Every match is an opportunity… We haven't performed on the level as expected as a team," he said.

Developing Young Spinners

Taijul expressed his confidence in Bangladesh's young spinners, including Nayeem Hasan and Miraz.

"Nayeem's record is quite good. Just because he didn't get wickets in one match doesn't mean he won't perform well in the future."
