Australia vs Pakistan: Maxwell Leads Side to 1-0 Series Lead

Australia's Glenn Maxwell and the country's pace trio put up an impressive performance at the Gabba, securing a 1-0 lead in the T20I series.

Key Points

  • Rain and lightning reduced the game to 7 overs per side, with Australia posting 93/4.
  • Glenn Maxwell scored 43, while Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten on 21.
  • Pakistan struggled in the chase, eventually falling to 64/9 in 7 overs.

Maxwell's Heroics Propel Australia

Opening batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk started strong, hitting successive boundaries off Shaheen Afridi in the first over. However, it was Maxwell who stole the show, contributing significantly to a 33-run second over. He reverse swept Shaheen for a six over third man and smashed Haris Rauf for two sixes in a single over.

Australia's Pace Trio Impress in the Field

Nathan Ellis, Xavier Bartlett, and Australian colleagues combined to stifle Pakistan's batting line-up, dismissing multiple key players. Ellis and Bartlett each took three wickets, while Ellis, Bartlett, and Matthew Short combined to dismiss Pakistan's top order.

Pakistan's Chase Falls Short

Sahibzada Farhan and Mohammad Rizwan got off to a strong start with back-to-back boundaries, but Spencer Johnson and the rest of the Australian pace attack brought them back down, dismissing key players and ultimately limiting Pakistan to 64/9 in 7 overs.
