India Deliver Crushing Series Win, Rout South Africa in 4th T20I

India romped to a 135-run win in the 4th T20I against South Africa, thanks to a devastating combination of Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson's batting and Arshdeep Singh's incisive new-ball spell. India's total of 283 for 1, which included Tilak's 120* off 47 and Samson's 109* off 56, is the new record total at the venue, surpassing the previous best by 23 runs.

Tilak and Samson set the tone for India's innings with a 210-run stand, hitting South Africa's bowlers to all parts of the ground. Samson, who had started off slowly compared to Tilak's aggression, turned it around and tore into the part-timer Aiden Markram, scoring 30 runs off his two overs.

South Africa's bowlers struggled to contain India's batting onslaught, with even the experienced Keshav Maharaj unable to plug the bleeding. India even got to 219, their total in the previous T20I, by the end of the 15th over, with 300 seeming a realistic possibility.

However, South Africa's bowlers managed to restrict India to 64 off the last 30 balls, thanks to some better bowling at the back end. Arshdeep Singh's new-ball spell was unplayable for most parts, helping India reduce South Africa to 10 for 4.

The Proteas' batting line-up struggled to mount a comeback, with only Tristan Stubbs (43), David Miller (36) and Marco Jansen (29* off 12) throwing their bats around for a few lusty blows. In the end, India emerged victorious by 135 runs, a crushing defeat that marked the end of the series.

Scorecard:

  • India: 283/1 in 20 overs (Tilak Varma 120*, Sanju Samson 109; Lutho Sipamla 1-58)
  • South Africa: 148 in 18.2 overs (Tristan Stubbs 43, David Miller 36; Arshdeep Singh 3-20, Axar Patel 2-6)
