Mehidy Hasan Miraz on Bangladesh's ODI win against West Indies

Mehidy Hasan Miraz spoke after Bangladesh's 14-ball win over West Indies in the opening ODI at St Kitts. Mehidy scored 74 off 101 balls, contributing to the hosts' total of 294.

Building partnerships was key after the visitors lost two early wickets and Tanzid Hasan's wicket in the middle overs. Mehidy played for runs, aiming to post 300 plus, which he felt would have been beneficial for the team.

The team's batting unit performed well, with a set batsman getting out and two set batters losing their wickets. Mehidy took a cautious approach, continuing the partnership and taking charge when Riyad bhai (Mahmudullah) got set.

The way the team finished the innings was brilliant, and Mehidy praised the bowlers for their performance. Despite the loss, Mehidy sees this as a learning opportunity for the team, particularly for those missing out due to injuries.

The team's bowlers can learn from this match, particularly how to handle pressure. Mehidy retained optimism that the three-match series can still be won, despite Bangladesh's recent form.

Batting-wise, the team batted well and put up a good total. However, the middle-over partnership put them in the back foot, and the bowlers struggled to get wickets in the last 20 overs. Mehidy feels that the team has positives, such as good batting and bowling initially, but needs to improve on certain areas.
