India's Head Coach Gautam Gambhir Backs Left-Right Combinations in Cricket

India's recent approach to pushing left-handed batsmen up the order to break the right-handed dominance of the top-five has received strong backing from head coach Gautam Gambhir. The team has seen a mix of players, including Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, and Rishabh Pant, get a go at the floater position, with Shreyas Iyer being pushed down.

Gambhir believes that this approach is the way cricket should be played, as it allows for a more dynamic batting order and creates opportunities for left-handed batsmen to make an impact. He also praised Axar Patel for his performance in the role, saying that he has done "fabulously well" and has enabled the team's batting ideas to come to fruition.

The team's selection decisions have also been under scrutiny, with Varun CV being added to the ODI squad and playing in the Cuttack fixture. Gambhir explained that Varun was picked for his wicket-taking ability in the middle, and that he could be an X-factor in the tournament.

Ravindra Jadeja's transition back to ODIs has also been a positive development, and Gambhir confirmed that the team will consider the make-up of the opposition when making decisions about the XI. The team's wicket-keeper situation has also been clarified, with KL Rahul being anointed as the first-choice wicket-keeper.
