Bowlers, Klaasen and van der Dussen complete England rout

South Africa comfortably beat England by seven wickets in Karachi, advancing to the semi-finals. They had already secured a top-four spot after restricting England to 179. Heinrich Klaasen made a strong return after missing the tournament opener due to injury, scoring his fifth consecutive half-century in the format. Rassie van der Dussen also reached fifty, adding 127 runs for the third wicket with Klaasen before finishing the game in the 30th over.

Jofra Archer took two wickets in the PowerPlay for England. Tristan Stubbs was dismissed for a five-ball duck in his first professional opening innings. Saqib Mahmood dropped Ryan Rickleton, but Archer removed the other opener in the ninth over. However, England struggled to make further breakthroughs as van der Dussen and Klaasen steered South Africa towards victory.

Jos Buttler tried various bowlers to break the partnership, including Adil Rashid, but to no avail. Buttler even brought back Archer for his eighth over in the 21st. Klaasen reached his 50 off 41 balls. By the halfway point of the chase, van der Dussen also reached his fifty. Rashid eventually dismissed Klaasen with six runs needed, but David Miller sealed the win with a six in the 30th over.

England's disappointing Champions Trophy campaign began with a poor batting performance. Buttler chose to bat, hoping to replicate South Africa's performance against Afghanistan at the same venue. Marco Jansen dismissed Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, and Ben Duckett by the seventh over. A 62-run partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook was England's best effort. Keshav Maharaj dismissed Brook, and Root was then out to Wiaan Mulder. Maharaj also had Liam Livingstone stumped. A 42-run stand between Buttler and Archer offered some resistance, but Mulder dismissed Archer. Mulder finished with 3-25 in 7.2 overs as England were all out in the 39th over. Archer's early wickets were overshadowed by South Africa's dominant batting display, which saw them win with 125 balls to spare.

Brief Scores:
England 179 in 38.2 overs (Joe Root 37; Wiaan Mulder 3-25, Marco Jansen 3-39, Keshav Maharaj 2-35) lost to South Africa 181/3 in 29.1 overs (Rassie van der Dussen 72*, Heinrich Klaasen 64; Jofra Archer 2-55) by 7 wickets
