West Indies to host day-night Test against Australia in July

The West Indies are set to host Australia in a day-night Test match at Sabina Park, Kingston, this July. This will be the first pink-ball fixture in Jamaica.

Michael Holding, Jamaican cricket legend, expressed his hopes for a successful event. Cricket authorities in the West Indies have confirmed the news to Cricbuzz.

Sabina Park is currently being upgraded with additional lights for the Test. Daley Redcliffe, head of Kingston Cricket Club, confirmed the day-night match and stated that the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) is best positioned to comment.

Courtney Francis, CEO of JCA, highlighted the significance of the Test and the investments made by the Government of Jamaica for upgrading the lights and installing a new electronic scoreboard.

The Sabina Park is jointly owned by Sabina Park Holdings, JCA, and KCC. All parties are working towards the Test, with assurances from Jamaica's Minister of Sport, Olivia Grange, regarding funding for the project.

This will be the second pink-ball Test in the Caribbean, following the 2018 match between West Indies and Sri Lanka at Kensington Oval in Barbados. The BCCI has been cautious about implementing day-night Tests, citing concerns about the duration of pink-ball matches.

Since its inception in 2015, 23 day-night Tests have been played, with Australia hosting the majority (13) and India staging it thrice. Other hosts include New Zealand, UAE, England, South Africa, and the West Indies.
