Rohit non-committal on playing four spinners in semifinal
Rohit Sharma is non-committal on having four spinners in the semifinal against Australia, despite the line-up doing the job for the side against New Zealand on Sunday night. The India skipper said it is a tempting proposition to include an extra spinner, specifically Varun Chakravarthy, who had the New Zealanders in a bind.
Chakravarthy was a late addition to the squad and proved the selection and the captain's vision right, returning with a five-wicket haul against New Zealand in only his second ODI. Rohit described Chakravarthy as having "something different about him" and said he knocks people over when he gets it right.
The India captain acknowledged that Australia have a strong record in ICC events and head to head they have a better record against India. However, Rohit said the players are aware of what they are up against and need to approach the game in a similar fashion. He emphasized the importance of focusing on what the team needs to do, rather than worrying about the opposition.
Rohit dismissed the allegation that his side enjoyed an undue advantage over other teams for playing all their games at the same venue, citing the different nature of the pitch in each match. He said the team will adapt to whatever pitch is played in the semi-final and play accordingly.
