South Africa's Tazmin Brits Reflects on Near-Century Effort in Tri-Series Match
Tazmin Brits scored a crucial 109 against India in the Tri-Series match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, but her efforts ultimately went in vain as South Africa lost by 15 runs.
Brits' Century Effort
Brits' 109 was her third ODI century, but it was a tough one to achieve in the sweltering heat of Colombo. Temperatures reached 34 degrees Celsius, and the humidity climbed to 78%. In contrast, her hometown of Klerksdorp experienced a relatively mild 27 degrees with humidity of 58%.
Challenges Faced by Brits
The heat and humidity took a toll on Brits, who suffered from cramps and struggled to bat. "The heat on the subcontinent and the humidity is something that no South African is used to," she said. "So it was tough for me, especially with us fielding first and then me batting for so long."
India's Dominant Performance
Despite Brits' efforts, India played a dominant game, showing up when it mattered most. "India played very well," Brits said. "They show up when it matters, and we didn't do that today."
Turning Point of the Game
The turning point of the game came in the 33rd over when Brits took a single through point to reach her century off 103 balls. However, she was forced to leave the crease due to cramps, and India took control of the game. When Brits returned, the South Africans had lost four wickets for 80 runs, and their required runrate had leapt to 10.13.
Post-Match Reflections
Brits reflected on what might have been if she had batted longer or pushed herself more. "If I batted a bit longer or pushed myself a bit more, maybe we wouldn't have been in that situation," she said. "Mentally it does sit with me because if I batted a bit longer I feel I could have put the team in a different position."
