Uppal Stadium's Drainage Concerns Ahead of IPL Play-offs

The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, has raised concerns about its readiness to host the IPL play-offs due to ground conditions and inadequate drainage. With Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator scheduled to take place on May 20 and 21, any unseasonal rain could impact the matches.

A senior official from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) assured that the issue will be addressed, while a ground staff member felt that there was little they could have done given the intensity of the downpour and lack of a clear weather forecast.

The match between SunRisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals was abandoned due to a wet outfield, with the stadium not being fully covered and lacking better drainage facilities. In contrast, other venues like Chinnaswamy and Chepauk have impeccable drainage systems.

The SRH franchise is unhappy with the turn of events and plans to bring it to the notice of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). They also dispute the claim that 90 percent of the ground was covered.

The HCA secretary admitted that the association was caught off guard by the sudden change in weather but promised to address the issues before the play-offs.
