IPL 2025: Three draft schedules prepared; BCCI set to announce late Monday
The BCCI management has drawn up three potential schedules to recommence the currently suspended IPL 2025. A final decision is expected later on Monday (May 12). The IPL Governing Council is set to meet in the afternoon to finalise the roadmap for the league's resumption.
A total of 16 matches, including the four play-offs, remain to be played.
Of the three proposed drafts, one is believed to be the traditional home-and-away format across all venues, excluding perhaps Dharamsala. The other two involve a reduced number of venues, primarily concentrated in the southern part of the country – probably in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
Confirmation of the new plan is expected within the next few hours. While no official word has been issued yet, there have been subtle cues from the IPL and BCCI managements to the franchises, advising them to reassemble at their respective bases at the earliest. All indications point to the league resuming later this week, probably on May 16 or 17.
The Governing Council members have not had any intimation about the meeting so far but it can be called even at a short notice of 15 minutes. The last meeting, when it was decided to suspend the league, was called at 10:45 AM and completed at 11 AM.
The BCCI may confine the league to fewer centres for logistical and operational convenience.
It is unlikely that all overseas players who left the country in last week's tense situation will return to honour their commitments. At this stage, however, the BCCI's primary objective is to ensure the league reaches its logical conclusion, even if that means proceeding without full participation from foreign players.
