Lucknow Super Giants' Inconsistent Campaign Comes to an End
Pant Admits Inconsistent Cricket Was Team's Downfall
Lucknow Super Giants' Rishabh Pant has conceded that the team's inconsistent campaign in IPL 2025 was a major factor in their inability to make the playoffs. The team's final league game ended in a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who chased down a massive 228-run target with eight balls to spare.
Injuries and Inconsistent Performances Hurt LSG
Pant attributed the team's struggles to a host of injuries before the tournament, which hurt the team's chances of maintaining a consistent performance throughout the season. "20 overs will definitely not save you in a T20 game and that's been our story," Pant said.
Zaheer Khan Echoes Pant's Sentiments
LSG's mentor, Zaheer Khan, also echoed Pant's sentiments, stating that the team's pace department was severely affected by injuries. "We obviously made the conscious effort of not paying much attention to the challenges which we are facing in the beginning of the season," Zaheer said.
Positives from the Season
Despite the team's inconsistent performance, Pant and Zaheer highlighted several positives from the season. The team's batting unit showed promise, with some exceptional performances from players like Digvesh Rathi and Avesh.
Overseas Trio Shines
The team's overseas top-order, comprising Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran, combined to add 1596 runs at a strike rate of over 168. However, Pant's drop in form and the middle order's inability to cash in on strong starts repeatedly hurt the side.
Pant Ends Campaign on a Strong Note
Pant ended the campaign on a strong note, smashing a 61-ball 118*. According to Zaheer, this performance will hold LSG in good stead as they look to build on from here for the next season.
Focus Shifts to National Duties
With the focus now shifting to national duties for Pant, the LSG mentor didn't elaborate much on how the team will break down this campaign. "There'll be a lot of areas where we'll be talking and looking to improve ourselves," Pant said.
