Newly-elected BCB board focuses on decentralization of operations
Decentralization of Operations
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to launch two pilot projects, mini BCBs, to decentralize the game. The newly elected president, Aminul Islam, presented his vision for Bangladesh cricket during a four-hour-long board meeting.
Key Initiatives
- Protect the spirit of the game: A program aimed at promoting fair play and sportsmanship in cricket.
- High performance for everyone: A program focused on developing cricket skills and talent across the country.
- Connect and grow: A program aimed at increasing participation and engagement in cricket.
- Transparency and good governance: A program focused on promoting financial transparency and accountability within the BCB.
Decentralization
The BCB will establish offices in Rajshahi and Chattogram to serve as pilot projects for decentralization. These offices will be responsible for developing coaches, umpires, and curators through structured programs, starting with a talent hunt.
BPL Teams and Payments
The BCB has asked BPL teams to inform them about their due payments. The board will only release money once they have verified the information by talking to the players. Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, a BCB director, stated that Barishal has no pending payments, while Rangpur will clear their dues before Eid. The other five teams have due payments, and the BCB will take legal action against the franchises if necessary.
Financial Situation
The BCB is still waiting for BDT 20 crore from sponsors and franchise fees. Once this money arrives, the board will have a profit of BDT 75 lakh. However, if they don't receive the money from all sources, the tournament will be loss-making.
