Gambhir Returns to India to Attend to Ailing Mother

Gautam Gambhir has returned to New Delhi to attend to his ailing mother, who suffered a heart attack a couple of days ago. The Indian head coach is currently by her side at Gangaram Hospital in the capital.

According to sources, Gambhir's mother is in her mid-sixties and is currently in the ICU. However, doctors are encouraged by her condition and are giving hope of a potential early recovery, which could see Gambhir rejoin the Indian team before the first Test in Leeds, starting June 20.

It is unclear who will take charge of the team in Gambhir's absence, but Sitanshu Kotak, Morne Morkel, T Dilip, and Ryan ten Doeschate are the other members of the coaching staff.

The Indian team is currently engaged in a four-day intra-squad match at Beckenham, which will conclude on June 16.
