BCCI Announces Changes to Indian Cricket Domestic Structure
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made key changes to the Indian domestic season starting in 2025/26.
Key Changes:
- Duleep Trophy: Returns to a zonal team format, selected by zonal selectors.
- Ranji Trophy: Only one team will be promoted/relegated from the Plate and Elite Groups.
- Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Adopts a Super League stage instead of a traditional knockout. The top two teams from each group will contest the final. This change also applies to the Senior Women's T20 Trophy.
- Vijay Hazare Trophy, Senior Women's One Day Trophy, and Men's U23 State A Trophy: Will follow a new grouping format with four Elite Groups and a Plate Group. Teams are ranked based on points, wins, and NRR to determine their group placement. The lowest-ranked teams are automatically relegated to the Plate Group.
Season Schedule:
- Start Date: August 28, 2025 (Duleep Trophy)
- End Date: April 3, 2026 (Senior Women's Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy)
