Ashwin's team cleared of ball-tampering charges in TNPL
Dindigul Dragons and captain R Ashwin have been cleared of ball-tampering charges by the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). The allegations were raised by Siechem Madurai Panthers after Dragons' nine-wicket win on June 14.
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) found no evidence of ball-tampering in the game. According to TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan, "The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams. The Playing Control Team, maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match. No concerns were raised during play, and no verifiable evidence has been provided."
Madurai-based franchise can explore an independent enquiry, with a formal request required, by 3 PM on June 17. However, TNPL has cautioned the franchise of consequences if the allegations are proven baseless.
In the match, Dragons restricted Panthers to 150/8, with Ashwin returning figures of 4-0-27-0. Dragons overhauled the target in under 13 overs, with Ashwin (49 off 29) and Shivam Singh (86* off 41) putting on a 124-run opening stand.
