Monank Patel's Night of Emotion and Elegance
Monank Patel's 93 off 50 deliveries against the Seattle Orcas was a career-defining innings that left everyone emotional, including Heinrich Klaasen, the world's top-ranked white-ball batter and Orcas captain. Patel's tactical approach and clinical shot selection made him a force to be reckoned with on an up-and-down wicket.
"This innings doesn't surprise me. Monank is a fantastic player," said MI New York coach Mark Boucher. "He's a fantastic player, and that's why he plays for the US as well."
Patel's innings was not only the highest by a domestic batter in terms of runs but also the classiest knock produced by a domestic player in MLC's brief history. His dominance in the chase was so commanding that he had blazed his way to 86 while Michael Bracewell played second fiddle with a contribution of 26 to the partnership.
The USA captain praised Bracewell, saying, "Bracewell is amazing. Behind the scenes hero. He knows what he needs to tell me, that is going to help me." The partnership between Patel and Bracewell has already yielded close to 300 runs across three games.
Patel's love affair with the Coliseum Stadium awaits the USA chapter, and perhaps a chance to stir those emotions again.
