India Dominate Day One in Headingley
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered dazzling centuries as India amassed 359/3 on the first day of the first Test against England at Headingley.
Jaiswal, in his first Test innings in England, and Gill, captaining India for the first time, shared a strong opening partnership. Jaiswal, reaching his fifth Test ton, built a solid foundation with KL Rahul before Gill took over in the second session. Gill remained unbeaten on 127, showcasing control and fluency throughout his innings.
England's bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, who scored freely through boundaries. Jaiswal faced some early challenges but weathered the storm, while Gill's approach was more aggressive from the outset.
Despite a brief setback with the wickets of Rahul and Sai Sudharsan, India's momentum continued with Jaiswal and Gill adding 129 runs. Jaiswal eventually fell for 101, but Pant joined Gill in a strong partnership, reaching his fifty and 3000 Test runs.
India finished the day at a brisk pace, setting a strong platform for the remainder of the match.
