SFU overpower MINY to make it five in five
San Francisco Unicorns continued their unbeaten run in MLC 2025, winning their fifth match in a row with a 47-run victory over MI New York. Batting first, SFU scored 246/4, thanks to Matthew Short's 91 off 43 balls. Despite a strong start by MINY's openers, the chase faltered in the second half, with the defending champions finishing on 199/6.
Short opened alongside Tim Seifert and the pair gave SFU a strong start, scoring 63/0 in the powerplay. Short then combined with Jake Fraser-McGurk for a 91-run stand, with both batters targeting the shorter boundary. Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Hassan Khan added late cameos to help SFU reach 240.
Chasing 247, MINY began well with Monank Patel and Quinton de Kock adding 119 for the opening stand. De Kock scored 70 off 46 balls, but once Liam Plunkett dismissed Monank and Nicholas Pooran fell to Haris Rauf's wide yorker, MINY's innings unraveled. Romario Shepherd and Xavier Bartlett bowled key overs, sharing four wickets to keep pegging back MINY. Despite late fireworks from Kieron Pollard, the required rate was always out of reach.
Brief Scores:
San Francisco Unicorns 246/4 (Short 91, Fraser-McGurk 64) beat MI New York 199/6 (De Kock 70) by 47 runs
