Brevis and Yusuf Make Test Debut
Dewald Brevis and Codi Yusuf will make their Test debut against Zimbabwe on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in their cricket careers.
Brevis' Journey
Brevis, 22, has been making waves in the cricket world with his impressive performances in the under-19 World Cup and the T20 format. He has scored two centuries and three 50s in the 2022 under-19 World Cup and broke Shikhar Dhawan's run-scoring record for the tournament.
Brevis credits his selection to his inner circle, including his school coach Deon Botes, who has known him since he was a small boy. He also mentions his good friend Tilak Varma, with whom he has shared dressing-rooms with Mumbai Indians and Hampshire.
Yusuf's Path
Yusuf, five years older than Brevis, has played 33 first-class matches compared to Brevis' two. However, he hasn't appeared in the IPL, which may have contributed to his relatively lower profile. Yusuf credits his wife, parents, and bowling coach Allan Donald for their support and guidance.
Common Ground
Despite their contrasting paths, Brevis and Yusuf share a common experience – disappointment. Brevis was left out of the South Africa team after playing two T20Is against Australia, while Yusuf turned his disappointment into determination after being hit out of a net in high school.
Test Debut
Brevis and Yusuf will join Lhuan-dre Pretorius in making their Test debut on Saturday. The three players will don their new Test caps, marking a significant milestone in their cricket careers.
