West Indies Head Coach Daren Sammy Fined and Given Demerit Point

Daren Sammy, the head coach of the West Indies cricket team, has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for criticizing third umpire Adrian Holdstock.

Reason for Fines

Sammy was found to have breached Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to public criticism of match officials.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on Day 2 of the opening Test against Australia in Barbados, where two set batters, Shai Hope and Roston Chase, were given contentious decisions against them.

Sammy's Comments

Sammy questioned the consistency of third umpire Adrian Holdstock, stating that he had noticed a pattern of inconsistent decision-making, particularly with this umpire.

Sanction

Sammy accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Javagal Srinath, which included a fine of 15 percent of his match fee and a demerit point.
