Clinical MI New York Put LA Knight Riders on the Brink

MI New York registered a much-needed victory, keeping them alive in the race for the final playoff spot in MLC 2025. The result puts LA Knight Riders on the brink of elimination, needing something remarkable to stay in contention until their final match.

First Innings

Trent Boult took full toll of the conditions, striking thrice in the powerplay to put LA Knight Riders under pressure. Unmukt Chand was castled first ball, followed by Andre Russell and Andre Fletcher, as MI New York made an electrifying start.

Sherfane Rutherford fought a lone battle, bringing up a fifty in stunning fashion off just 22 balls. He was eventually dismissed off the first ball of the penultimate over as Boult returned to pick up his fourth wicket. LA Knight Riders limped their way to a moderate 154/8.

Second Innings

Sunil Narine struck early, getting rid of Quinton de Kock in the powerplay. However, Monank and Pooran slowly found the boundary to push the scoring rate. LA Knight Riders missed a great chance to send Pooran back to the pavilion when he was on 15, and it proved costly.

Monank was the aggressor initially, bringing up his half-century, while Pooran played second fiddle. Pooran broke free with a six off a free-hit, and both batters brought up their respective half-centuries. Kieron Pollard ensured there were no hiccups, smacking back-to-back sixes to put down LA Knight Riders for good.

Brief Scores:

  • LA Knight Riders: 154/8 in 20 overs (Sherfane Rutherford 86; Trent Boult 4/17, Kieron Pollard 2/15)
  • MI New York: 155/2 in 17.5 overs (Nicholas Pooran 62*, Monank Patel 56)
  • Result: MI New York won by 8 wickets
