India 564/7 at Tea on Day 2 of Edgbaston Test
Shubman Gill's majestic 265* was the highlight of a fast-scoring middle session for India. The visitors continued to pile on easy runs, scoring 145 at 4.67 RPO, for the loss of only one wicket.
Gill led the way through a 144-run stand with Washington Sundar, who chipped in a handy 42. Washington counter-attacked after facing early pressure, including a short-ball tactic from England. He pulled one high into the stands and ran into the fence, before being dismissed by Joe Root for 42.
Gill continued to score freely, becoming the third Indian to notch up a double ton in England and the second youngest India captain to do so. He took India past 500, making it the sixth instance of a visiting team breaching the mark in an Edgbaston Test.
Gill reached the 250 milestone, becoming only the sixth Indian to do so. He remains poised to convert his fantastic knock into a rare triple.
