England's Edgbaston extremities: Of ducks and daddy hundreds
Statistical Highlights
England's 407 is the lowest ever all-out innings total to feature two 150-plus scores (184* by Jamie Smith and 158 by Harry Brook). This surpasses the previous record of 414 by West Indies against Australia at Georgetown in 1968.
England has recorded six ducks in a Test innings for the first time, a joint-record in Test cricket. This is the ninth such occurrence, with the previous one being during the shortest ever completed Test in Cape Town last year.
Brydon Carse accounted for the 10,000th duck in Test cricket history, and Mohammed Siraj soon made it 10,002, dismissing Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir in quick succession.
It was the second time in Tests that a team went past 400 in an innings despite five (or more) ducks. South Africa holds the record, having posted 429 against Bangladesh in Centurion in 2008.
Brook and Smith sizzle amidst the chaos
Harry Brook and Jamie Smith added 303 runs, the third 300-plus stand for the sixth wicket or lower for England in Tests. This is also England's third 300-plus partnership for any wicket against India.
Jamie Smith scored 184*, the highest score by an England wicketkeeper in Tests, surpassing Alec Stewart's 173 at Auckland in 1997. Smith's 184 is now the second 150-plus score by a 'keeper in Tests between India and England, after Budhi Kunderan's 192 in Chennai in 1964.
Jaiswal's extends his imperious run
Yashasvi Jaiswal made his 2000th Test run in just 40 innings, joining Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag in this list. He is also the second youngest Indian batter to the milestone after Sachin Tendulkar.
