England's first innings was marked by two 150-plus scores and six ducks, the most in a Test innings.

Two 150-plus scores

Six ducks

  • England's six ducks is the joint-most in a Test innings ever, with the previous instance coming during the shortest ever completed Test in Cape Town last year.
  • Brydon Carse accounted for the 10,000th duck in Test cricket history, when he was trapped leg-before by Mohammed Siraj.

300-plus stand

  • Harry Brook and Jamie Smith added 303 runs, the third 300-plus stand for the sixth wicket or lower for England in Tests.
  • It was also England's third 300-plus partnership for any wicket against India.

Jaiswal's imperious run

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal made 40 innings to reach 2000 Test runs for India, the joint-fastest to the milestone alongside Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag.
  • He is also the second youngest Indian batter to the milestone after Sachin Tendulkar.

India's opening bowlers

  • Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep shared all 10 wickets between them in a Test innings, the fourth instance of India's opening bowlers achieving this feat.
