Trescothick: England Not Naive Enough to Rule Out Draw
England's assistant coach Marcus Trescothick has emphasized that his team is not naive enough to think that a draw is the only option going into the final day of the Edgbaston Test. With 536 runs needed to win and seven wickets in hand, England will need to adapt to score close to six an over for an entire day.
"We all probably appreciate that it's a hell of a lot of runs to try and score," Trescothick said. "It's 550 tomorrow and I don't think we've seen scoring rates quite that quick in a day, so of course it will be challenging."
Trescothick also highlighted that England's approach will depend on the situation, and they are not limited to just winning or losing. "We're not stupid enough to think that you have to just win or lose. There are three results possible in every game that you play."
The forecast for rain on Sunday could be a potential ally for England, but Trescothick doesn't believe shutting shop will be an option universally adopted by the batters. "I don't think we use that sort of language," he said. "It's not the sort of changing room that we are."
Morkel: India's Bowling Coach Sees Exciting Contest Ahead
India's bowling coach Morne Morkel believes that batting is still easy on this Edgbaston pitch going into the fifth day. He expects England to adopt their usual attacking approach, making for a very interesting contest, especially during the middle overs when the Dukes balls go soft and offer no bite off the wicket.
"It's definitely going to be an exciting day of cricket," Morkel said. "Harry Brook did say last night in the media that they're going to chase or go at everything or anything that we set for them. They're attacking players. That's their brand of cricket they want to play."
