SA Continue to Fly High after Mulder's 367 and Subrayen's Four-Fer*

On a record-breaking day at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, Wiaan Mulder declared South Africa's innings at lunch on 626 for 5.

Mulder, resuming the second day on 264, broke several records, including the highest score by a South African in Tests. He punished the errors in lengths by the bowlers, pulling away the short pitched deliveries and driving the full ones with ease.

Dewald Brevis, who looked busy in the first half an hour, couldn't exploit his opportunity after being dropped on 24 and was caught behind soon after.

Mulder became the second South African to post a triple century, reaching the mark in only his 297th delivery. He continued to pile on runs quickly, overtaking Hashim Amla's highest score of 311.

Kyle Verreynne played a secondary part in the partnership, scoring an unbeaten 42, as the visitors added 113 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket stand.

South Africa declared their innings at lunch and continued their domination in the contest. Zimbabwe were skittled out for 170, despite a breezy unbeaten 83 by Sean Williams.

Prenelan Subrayen marked his Test debut with a four-wicket haul as the hosts were asked to follow on. Mulder also chipped in with a brace with the ball.

Zimbabwe put up a better show with the bat in the second essay, with Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Dion Myers remaining defiant for more than nine overs before the latter was cleaned up by Corbin Bosch.

Brief Scores:

  • South Africa 626/5 decl. (Wiaan Mulder 367*, David Bedingham 82; Tanaka Chivanga 2-112)
  • Zimbabwe 170 (Sean Williams 83*; Prenelan Subrayen 4-42) & 51/1 (Takudzwanashe Kaitano 34*)
  • South Africa lead by 405 runs
