SA decimate Zimbabwe to take series 2-0
South Africa completed a massive innings and 236-run victory in the second Test, and a 2-0 series whitewash, in Bulawayo on Tuesday (July 8).
Zimbabwe's top-order offered some resistance, but a collapse of 8 for 67 proved fatal. Stand-in skipper Wiaan Mulder's record-breaking 367 not out set up the inevitable win.
Resuming from 51 for 1 on Day 3, Zimbabwe lost Takudzwanashe Kaitano early into the session. A half-century stand between Nick Welch (55) and skipper Craig Ervine (49) ensued, but was broken by Senuran Muthusamy and Mulder.
The slide was quick, with Wessley Madhevere and Tafadzwa Tsiga falling within six overs of each other to Codi Yusuf. Ervine missed out on a half-century and departed soon after. Corbin Bosch removed the Zimbabwean skipper and Kundai Matigimu in the same over, and Blessing Muzarabani later in the same spell.
The last-wicket pair of Wellington Masakadza and Tanaka Chivanga delayed the inevitable for almost nine overs, with Chivanga counterpunching through his 26-ball 22. However, Muthusamy broke the partnership, and Zimbabwe were shot down for just 220 in their second innings.
