Upcoming BPL Season Postponed
Possible New Date: May 2026
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) chairman, Mahbub Anam, has announced that the upcoming season may be shifted from the December-January window to May 2026. This decision comes after the government directed all concerned agencies to complete necessary preparations by December to ensure a peaceful and orderly general election in early 2026.
Government Decision to be Waited Upon
Mahbub Anam stated that the BPL slot may change due to the elections, and the next steps will be taken depending on the government's decision. May 2026 is being considered as another available window to hold the BPL.
New Sports Marketing Consultancy Firm to be Appointed
The BCB has already given an advertisement for EOI (Expression of Interest) for the appointment of a sports marketing consultancy firm. Priority will be given to those who have conducted international T20 leagues in the past.
Increasing Brand Value of BPL
Mahbub Anam emphasized the need to set up a standard for the BPL and increase its brand value. He stated that in the past, there were some mistakes, and the BCB needs to take responsibility.
New Venues to be Added
The BPL chairman announced plans to increase the number of venues in the tournament. Currently, the BPL is played in three venues: Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet. New venues will be added if they meet ICC standards and provide suitable accommodation for players.
Venues Under Consideration
Bogura and Khulna stadiums have been sent for auditing, and work is ongoing at Barisal Stadium. The National Sports Council is also working on Rajshahi. The best venues that meet the criteria could be added to the upcoming BPL.
