Pant to Miss Oval Test with Foot Fracture
Rishabh Pant will miss the Oval Test with a foot fracture sustained while batting on Day 2 of the Manchester Test. He was struck on the boot while attempting a scoop off Chris Woakes' delivery and had to be driven off the field. The injury is expected to keep him sidelined for at least six weeks.
Despite the seriousness of the injury, Pant returned to bat the following day and brought up fifty before being dismissed. He was not required to bat during India's second innings as KL Rahul and the middle-order fought out a hard-fought draw.
India's head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Pant's efforts, saying that his character and foundation of the team will be built on what he did for the team and country. He also expressed hope that Pant recovers quickly and returns to the team soon.
Injury Updates
India also had to contend with injuries to Akash Deep (groin injury), Arshdeep Singh (finger injury), and Nitish Reddy (knee injury). While Nitish was ruled out of the series, both Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh have been confirmed to return for the series decider in London.
