London Spirit Seal Thriller Against Welsh Fire
Charli Knott's all-round performance helped London Spirit defend a low score of 124 against Welsh Fire, winning by 2 runs in a final-ball thriller.
Knott top-scored with 47, amidst a collapse, and also picked up the key wicket of Tammy Beaumont to restrict Fire to 122/5.
London Spirit's openers laid a brisk platform with a 34-run stand before losing four wickets for 35 runs. Knott held one end, batting positively despite losing partners regularly, hitting seven boundaries in her 33-ball effort.
Katie Levick (3/26) and Freya Davies (3/16) picked three-fers, while Hayley Matthews chipped in with a brace, sending down 14 dots in her quota of 20.
In the chase, Matthews combined with Sophia Dunkley for a 37-run stand before being dismissed. Knott sent back the Fire skipper, and Dunkley took her team past the 100-run mark before falling soon after. Jess Jonassen's patient 29 put Fire on the brink, but her untimely run-out flipped the game on its head. Georgia Elwiss needed three off the final delivery but lost her wicket instead, sealing the win for London Spirit.
