Manchester Originals Secure First Win of the Season
Manchester Originals have won their first match of the 2025 campaign, edging past Oval Invincibles by just two runs at The Kia Oval. Captain Beth Mooney's brilliant 70 proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Mooney's knock was built around a competitive total of 139 for 6 in 100 balls. Oval Invincibles' chase began well, with Lauren Winfield-Hill and Meg Lanning putting together a solid opening stand of 49 without loss. However, Manchester Originals' bowlers applied pressure at crucial junctures, restricting the middle order's ability to capitalize on the strong foundation laid by the openers.
Despite a valiant effort in the closing stages, Oval Invincibles fell agonizingly short of their target, finishing on 137 for 6. Deandra Dottin's last-over bowling conceded a six but kept her nerve to secure the win.
Brief Scores: Manchester Originals 139/6 (Beth Mooney 70) beat Oval Invincibles 137/3 (Meg Lanning 56) by 2 runs
