Rashid Khan, openers make it two in two for Oval Invincibles
Oval Invincibles men's side climbed to the top of the table with a second successive commanding win – by 9 wickets – over Manchester Originals. Invincibles' win was set up by Rashid Khan's 3 for 19 and Jason Behrendorff's double strikes upfront that kept the Originals to just 128. Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye hit blazing half-centuries to help polish off the chase with 43 balls to spare.
Phil Salt made a brisk start after Originals were put in to bat first, but Behrendorff struck twice in the space of five deliveries to get rid of Matthew Hurst and Jos Buttler for ducks. Salt combined with Chapman for a 50-run partnership. A collapse of 3 for 16 reduced Originals to 84/5, with Salt holding one end to eventually push them into triple-figures. Rashid struck twice to trigger a second collapse, of 4 for 10. Scott Currie's boundary-filled cameo of 21 in nine deliveries prevented Originals from ending with a much lower score.
Jacks (61 off 26) and Muyeye (59* off 28) were quick off the blocks in the chase, hitting ten boundaries each while the latter also struck two maximums. The duo put on a 114-run stand – bringing their half-centuries at a strike-rate above 200 each – in just 49 deliveries to set-up a comfortable chase. Lewis Gregory got the Originals a consolation wicket but it was too little too late. Muyeye carried his bat through, while Jordan Cox hit the winning runs.
Brief scores:
Manchester Originals 128 (Phil Salt 41; Rashid Khan 3-19) lost to Oval Invincibles 129/1 (Will Jacks 61, Tawanda Muyeye 59*) by 9 wickets.
