Cameron Green Reflects on West Indies Series and Looks Ahead to The Ashes
Cameron Green has had a tough start to the year, missing a significant chunk of cricket in 2024 and 2025 due to back surgery and rehab. However, he has made a successful return to competitive cricket, surviving "unscathed" in the Frank Worrell Trophy.
Despite averaging 30.67 and being the third highest run-scorer across the three Tests, Green feels that the series didn't provide many takeaways due to the vastly different conditions. "I don't think we'll be playing on many wickets quite like that (in The Ashes), so I don't think there's too many takeaways," he said.
With The Ashes opener three months away, Green is eyeing up a stint with Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield to bolster his preparations ahead of the Australian summer. He believes this will also provide an opportunity to get back to bowling, which he hasn't done since his return to competitive cricket in June.
"In the past, it's worked really well when I've focused on Shield cricket. That potentially might be the way to go, especially with (me) working my way back to bowling, to potentially get a few more overs over a few more days."
Green is uncertain about which game he will finally return to bowling but is excited about the journey after his long injury lay-off. "I'm not quite certain on what match (his return to bowling) is, but I'm feeling really good and I'm in a really good spot. It's just really exciting. It's been a long road back."
