Gill May Skip Duleep Trophy Due to Illness
Shubman Gill, the India captain, is likely to miss the upcoming Duleep Trophy due to illness. The North Zone selection committee has been anticipating his unavailability for the inter-zonal competition, scheduled to begin on August 28.
Gill was appointed skipper of the North Zone team, but officials within the BCCI and selection committee have not confirmed his availability. Sources close to the India Test skipper have confirmed that he is unwell and resting at home in Chandigarh.
Gill was due to leave for national duty in the Asia Cup starting September 9, and would not have featured in the entire Duleep Trophy in any case. He could have been available only for the opening game, but the North Zone selectors have already made arrangements for a replacement.
Shubham Rohilla has been named as a replacement for Gill, and Ankit Kumar will now lead the North Zone side in the Duleep Trophy. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, both named in the Asia Cup squad, will leave the zonal side after the first game for national duty.
