Are Bangladesh moving on from Miraz in T20 cricket?

Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain has confirmed that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will only be considered for T20Is in times of crisis. Miraz has been struggling in T20Is, with just five wickets in eight innings at an average of 37.80, a strike rate of 24, and an economy of 9.45.

Miraz has been working on his technique, focusing on his balance, stability, and alignment, and has also been working on release points, strengthening his stride, and creating angles at the crease. A coach working with him said that they are trying to see if he is maintaining the right process, and that switching between formats can be difficult.

Chief selector Ashraf echoed these thoughts, saying that while Miraz is a valuable allrounder in Tests and ODIs, he is not currently a priority for T20Is. Ashraf stressed that red-ball and white-ball cricket have different demands and intensity, and that playing three formats simultaneously is tough nowadays.

He added that the team is moving towards specialization gradually, and that they want to manage Miraz's workload. Ashraf pointed to broader trends in world cricket, saying that teams like India are fielding separate squads for Tests and limited-overs cricket.
