It's a long way from Breetzke to Stubbs
Matthew Breetzke scored more runs in his last five innings than Tristan Stubbs did in his last 15. This is not uncommon, as players experience form slumps throughout their careers.
Stubbs' Form Slump
Stubbs, known for his athleticism and electrifying fielding, has dropped six catches in his last five games. According to South Africa's batting coach, Ashwell Prince, Stubbs may be struggling with his approach and mindset.
Prince's Take on Stubbs
"These guys play a lot of cricket, especially the ones who play all three formats. Sometimes you can get a little bit clouded in terms of your approach and how to go about things."
Prince believes Stubbs may be struggling to adapt between formats, which could be affecting his performance.
Breetzke's Rise to Form
In contrast, Matthew Breetzke has been in excellent form, scoring 88 and 57 in recent ODIs. He has also impressed with his intensity in training, which has translated to his match performances.
Prince on Breetzke
"Matthew has always been a positive guy. He's always backed himself. For him, it doesn't matter who's bowling or who the opposition are. He's got game in terms of his skillset, that's clear for everyone to see. But his mentality is one of his biggest strengths. He takes it to the opposition."
The Task Ahead
Ashwell Prince's challenge is to help Stubbs regain his form while keeping Breetzke's momentum going in South Africa's three ODIs against England.
