Oman Captain's Plea for Support in Bridging Cricket Gap
Jatinder Singh Hopes to Train in India to Improve Test-Associate Nation Difference
Oman captain Jatinder Singh has called on India to lend a helping hand in bridging the gap between Test and Associate nations in cricket.
Oman's performance against the top-ranked India in the Asia Cup fixture has left a lasting impression, despite falling short by 21 runs.
Support Needed from Bigger Asian Teams
According to Jatinder, if India were to offer support, their home could become a training ground for Oman's cricketers. Jatinder suggested that accessing National Cricket Academies (NCAs) in India could benefit Oman in several ways.
"Letting us make their home our home… If we can train there, go to the NCAs, train our skill, mental aspects, the fitness part, and play a lot of T20s with the club teams and Ranji teams, I think that will definitely help us and that will fill the gap."
Filling the Gap between Test and Associate Nations
Oman's participation in the Asia Cup marked the first time they played in the tournament, which has a rich history dating back to the 1980s.
"We are an Associate nation. The reality is we do not get to play with the Test playing nations… So we are so, so fortunate that we got this platform to come and play here."
Jatinder believes that future tournaments with increased participation from Associate nations could help bridge the gap between the Test-playing nations and Associate nations.
