Mithun Manhas Emerges Front Runner for BCCI President
Amid Swirling Speculation
Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas has emerged as the front runner for the BCCI president position, according to sources. Manhas, who played 157 first-class matches, has been nominated by the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) for the September 28 election and Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Raghuram Bhatt Also in Contention
Raghuram Bhatt, a former India Test cricketer, is also expected to file nomination for the BCCI election in Mumbai on Sunday. However, it is unclear which position he will be in contention for.
Decision to Be Made on Sunday
The final decision on the president position is expected to be made known to the candidates on Sunday morning, hours before the deadline to file nominations expires. A source from the BCCI informed that all candidates have been asked to proceed to Mumbai.
Manhas' Rise to Power
Manhas has emerged as a surprise choice, given the high profiles of other contenders and aspirants. Sourav Ganguly's name remained in the fray until the last minute, but Manhas appears to be gaining favor. A highly-placed source stated that it is 90% likely that Manhas will be the choice for president.
High-Powered Meeting
A high-powered meeting was held at a Union Minister's residence on Saturday night, where many aspirants were asked to come to Delhi and wait for the call. Present at the meeting were all BCCI office-bearers, including secretary Devajit Saikia, joint secretary Rohan Dessai, treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, vice-president Rajeev Shukla, and IPL commissioner Arun Singh Dhumal.
Expected Outcomes
Shukla, Saikia, Bhatia, and Dessai are expected to retain their positions, while Dhumal's situation remains unclear. It is expected that he will be in Mumbai on Sunday.
