Mitchell ruled out of second ODI, Nicholls called in as cover
West Indies tour of New Zealand, 2025
Daryl Mitchell will not travel to Napier for the second One-Day International against West Indies after experiencing thigh discomfort during Sunday's match. He will undergo scans on his left groin in Christchurch, which will likely determine his availability for the remainder of the series, according to New Zealand Cricket.
Mitchell felt the discomfort while scoring his seventh ODI century in New Zealand's seven-run victory over West Indies at Hagley Oval and did not return to the field for the second innings.
Henry Nicholls has been recalled to the squad as cover and will join the team in Napier on Monday. Nicholls' last ODI appearance was in April this year. The batter has topped the domestic run-scoring charts in the Ford Trophy with 306 runs at an average of 76.50, including back-to-back centuries (117* and 138*) in rounds one and three against Otago and Auckland.
