Thunder register first points with nine-wicket win over Scorchers

Sydney Thunder registered their first win of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 with a nine-wicket hammering of Perth Scorchers.

Chasing a target of 151, Thunder got home with 10 balls to spare, thanks to half-centuries from Tahlia Wilson and captain Phoebe Litchfield. Georgia Voll also contributed with a 31-ball 43, playing her part in the 68-run opening stand. Once she fell in the ninth over to Lilly Mills, Litchfield took over and hit the only six of the night that took Thunder over the line.

Earlier, Scorchers got off to a good start with a 76-run opening stand between Beth Mooney and Katie Mack. Most of those runs came from Mack, who was dropped a few times but kept going for the shots. She hit nine boundaries and was the final batter dismissed off the last ball of the innings. But she lacked support at the other end, with Thunder's bowlers striking regularly.

With this win, Thunder break out of their three-match losing streak that started their season, while Scorchers failed to keep the winning momentum from their last match.

Brief Scores: Perth Scorchers 150/7 (Mack 79; Samantha Bates 1-18) lost to Sydney Thunder 154/1 (Wilson 55*, Litchfield 50*) by 9 wickets
