Ireland collapse after Mushfiqur, Litton hundreds take Bangladesh to 476

Ireland were left reeling at close of play on the second day of the second Test in Dhaka, having lost half their side and still trailing by 378 runs. Centuries from Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das saw Bangladesh amass 476 by Tea before their bowlers rattled through Ireland's top order in the final session.

Mushfiqur Rahim, resuming on 99*, reached his century in the second over of the day, becoming just the 11th batter to score a hundred in his 100th Test. He was dismissed soon after, edging to Andrew Balbirnie at second slip in the 99th over.

Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz then added an aggressive century stand, taking Bangladesh to 387/5 at Lunch. Litton brought up his ton with a boundary in the 116th over. Both batters overturned LBW decisions in the second session before falling in quick succession—Mehidy caught at point off Gavin Hoey, and Litton caught at slip off Matthew Humphreys. Taijul Islam was bowled by Hoey shortly after, leaving Bangladesh on 443/8.

Ebadot Hossain provided a brief counter-attack, hitting three fours and a six in an 18-run over off Hoey. Andy McBrine then completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Hasan Murad and trapping Khaled Ahmed LBW to end the innings.

In reply, Ireland's Andrew Balbirnie successfully reviewed an LBW decision off the second ball of the innings. Paul Stirling was particularly aggressive, hitting Taijul Islam for a six in the 10th over. The opening stand of 41 ended when Stirling was trapped LBW by Khaled Ahmed in the 11th over.

Ireland's collapse continued as Balbirnie inside-edged to slip in the 19th over, Cade Carmichael was trapped LBW by Mehidy, and Curtis Campher fell for a four-ball duck. Lorcan Tucker survived two LBW reviews, but Harry Tector was trapped in front shortly after. Ireland finished the day at 98/5, trailing by 378 runs.

Brief Scores: Bangladesh 476 all-out (Litton Das 128, Mushfiqur Rahim 106; Andy McBrine 6-109) lead Ireland 98/5 (Paul Stirling 27, Andrew Balbirnie 21; Hasan Murad 2-10) by 378 runs
