Multan Sultans owner threatens legal action over PSL renewal
Ali Khan Tareen, owner of the Multan Sultans franchise, has warned the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that he will initiate legal proceedings if communication issues are not resolved.
Tareen stated in a social media post: "If this ghosting continues we will have no choice but to take legal action. Which is the absolute last thing we want to do. This entire situation is so unnecessary and could have easily been solved over tea and biscuits. But fragile egos make simple things difficult. Let's hope better sense prevails, but it is not looking likely."
The conflict stems from the PCB's apparent refusal to renew Multan Sultans' franchise contract, while agreements with the other five teams are reportedly being renewed. Tareen claims his franchise has sent multiple emails to PSL management requesting valuation and renewal documents but received no response.
Tareen wrote: "Over the past month we have sent multiple emails to the PSL management, asking for our valuation and renewal letter (which every other team has already received). But there has been no response. No response to our legal letter, no response to our emails, no response to my letter to the Chairman."
Legal experts suggest the PCB may be in breach of its franchise agreement with Multan Sultans, as Tareen's existing contract runs until December 31, 2025. The PSL management is contractually obligated to share all relevant information, including valuations from Ernst & Young and new agreement letters.
The PCB recently announced completion of the independent valuation process and shared renewal offer letters with "all compliant PSL Franchises." However, the PCB is reportedly considering terminating Multan Sultans' contract for breach of PSL code of conduct.
The PSL currently features teams from Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi, and Multan, with expansion to eight teams under consideration.
