Sydney Thunder fold for 64, slump to fourth loss
Melbourne Renegades comfortably beat Sydney Thunder at Drummoyne Oval to move to second in the WBBL 2025 standings. A collective bowling performance from the Renegades knocked Thunder over for just 64 before the visitors cruised to victory with eight wickets and 8.5 overs to spare. The result also meant the Renegades completed a double over the Thunder this season.
Georgia Voll got Thunder off to a quick start with two boundaries off Milly Illingworth, but the bowler had the last laugh with Voll’s wicket. Chais Bekker removed captain Phoebe Litchfield as Thunder fell into early trouble, and followed up with Tahlia Wilson’s wicket in her next over. Alice Capsey picked up two wickets in the 10th over to further derail Thunder, before Georgia Wareham (3 for 12) replicated the feat a few overs later. Sophie Molineux then had Shabnim Ismail stumped as Thunder folded for 64. Only two of their batters reached double digits.
Renegades suffered an early jolt with the wicket of Courtney Webb and lost Emma de Broughe after a brief stand with Molineux. But Molineux (29 off 22) and Capsey (24 off 20) had no trouble chasing down the paltry score, scoring boundaries in almost every over to canter home quickly.
Brief Scores:
Sydney Thunder 64 in 17 overs (Heather Knight 20, Anika Learoyd 13; Georgia Wareham 3-12, Alice Capsey 2-12) lost to Melbourne Renegades 68/2 in 11.1 overs (Sophie Molineux 29*, Alice Capsey 24*) by eight wickets
