Australia unchanged for Brisbane Test; Cummins, Hazlewood still out
Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood will miss the second Ashes Test in Brisbane starting on Thursday (December 4) after Australia named an unchanged squad for the Day-Night Test at the Gabba. The two fast bowlers were seen training in the nets in Sydney during the week but have not been declared fit to feature in the Test, meaning Steve Smith will continue to captain the side.
Cummins will remain with the side in Brisbane during the Test and continue his preparations there.
Australia Squad: Steve Smith (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster
Usman Khawaja has been retained in the squad despite a back strain and scoring only one run in the first innings in Perth. He did not bat in the second innings after an awkward fall while fielding aggravated the injury.
Travis Head was promoted to the top of the order and scored 123 off 83 as Australia chased 205 in a single session on Day 2. It remains to be seen if Australia will drop Khawaja, promote Head to the top order, and include all-rounder Beau Webster at No. 6.
Australia lead the five-match series 1-0. The squad will assemble in Brisbane on Sunday (November 30).
