All-round Devine, King power Perth Scorchers to comfortable win

Sophie Devine and Alana King delivered a strong all-round performance to lead Perth Scorchers to a convincing 30-run victory over Melbourne Renegades at the WACA. After posting 184/5, Scorchers restricted Renegades to 154/9.

The win lifts Scorchers to third on the points table with 10 points, while Renegades slip to sixth with 8 points. Both teams have one match remaining.

Scorchers' innings was built on solid top-order contributions. A brisk opening stand between Katie Mack and Beth Mooney set the tone. Skipper Sophie Devine then anchored the middle overs, scoring 40 off 28 balls in a 69-run partnership with Maddy Darke (36). Devine's innings included two fours and three sixes.

The late surge came from Freya Kemp (28 off 13) and Alana King (22* off 8), who plundered 54 runs in the final four overs to push the total past 180.

Renegades' chase faltered early, collapsing to 34/4. Deandra Dottin and Courtney Webb fell in the first two overs. A brief counter-attack from Alice Capsey and Sophie Molineux was halted by Devine, who removed both batters.

Nicole Faltum (28) and Georgia Wareham (43) rebuilt with a 65-run partnership, but the required rate had climbed to 12 per over at the halfway stage. Leg-spinner Alana King broke the stand, dismissing both set batters in successive overs.

Tess Flintoff offered late resistance, but Devine returned to claim her fourth wicket, finishing with figures of 4/25. Renegades managed only 16 runs from the final two overs, falling well short.

Brief scores: Perth Scorchers 184/5 in 20 overs (Sophie Devine 40, Maddy Darke 36; Issy Wong 2-34) beat Melbourne Renegades 154/9 in 20 overs (Georgia Wareham 43; Sophie Devine 4-25, Alana King 2-29) by 30 runs.
