Mohit Sharma retires from all formats of cricket
Mohit Sharma has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. The 37-year-old took to Instagram to announce his decision: "Today, with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing."
His professional career spanned nearly 14 years, beginning with a first-class debut for Haryana in 2011. He made his T20 debut for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL a couple of years later. For India, he played 26 ODIs and eight T20Is between 2013 and 2015, taking 37 wickets across these formats.
In the IPL, Mohit started as a new-ball bowler for CSK before evolving into a death-overs specialist. After a stint with Kings XI Punjab, his late-career resurgence came with Gujarat Titans in 2023, where, at 35, he took 27 wickets and nearly won the Purple Cap. He later played for Delhi Capitals in the 2025 season, featuring in eight games and taking two wickets.
In his statement, Mohit added: "A very special thank you to the Haryana Cricket Association for being the backbone of my career. And my deepest gratitude to Anirudh Sir, whose constant guidance and belief in me shaped my path in ways words cannot express. Thank you to the BCCI, my coaches, my teammates, IPL franchises, support staff and all my friends for their love and support. Special thanks to my wife who always handled my mood swings and anger, and supported me through everything. I look forward to serving the game in fresh ways."
