Voll stars as Thunder sign off with win in rain-hit clash
Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Thunder
Georgia Voll starred with both ball and bat as Sydney Thunder signed off from WBBL 2025 with a win over Melbourne Stars in a rain-hit clash at the Junction Oval on Saturday (December 6). The Stars, asked to bat first, managed only 66 for 6 in 10 overs before Thunder chased down a DLS-adjusted target of 76 with nine wickets and 17 balls to spare.
The Stars got off to a steady start with Rhys McKenna and Meg Lanning managing 25 from the four-over PowerPlay. Rain arrived two balls into the fifth over at 29 for 0, and the lengthy delay reduced the game to a 10-over affair. Having just 34 balls left hampered the Stars, whose attempts to accelerate led to wickets falling in clusters. Voll, Lucy Finn and Em Arlott evenly shared the six wickets.
Thunder had been hit hard in a previous rain-affected game when they were just three runs from a win. This time, the elements did not stop them as Voll and Phoebe Litchfield added 50 in just 4.3 overs. From there, it was a straightforward path to the finish. Litchfield fell for a 23-ball 37, but Voll saw the team over the line with an unbeaten 18-ball 33 as Thunder finished their season with a fourth win.
Brief scores: Melbourne Stars 66/6 in 10 overs (Rhys McKenna 24; Georgia Voll 2-13) lost to Sydney Thunder 79/1 in 7.1 overs (Phoebe Litchfield 37, Georgia Voll 33*; Annabel Sutherland 1-20) by nine wickets (DLS Method).
