Kuldeep, Prasidh four-fers and Jaiswal ton seal India's series win

Four-wicket hauls from Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna, followed by a maiden ODI hundred from Yashasvi Jaiswal, headlined India's clinical display in the third ODI in Vizag as they clinched the series with a commanding nine-wicket win.

After finally winning the toss, India chose to bowl and kept South Africa to 270 despite Quinton de Kock's fine hundred. Rohit Sharma then set the tone for the chase with a brisk 75, while Virat Kohli extended his good form with a quick-fire 65*. Jaiswal was the standout in India's innings, crafting a composed 116 not out off 121 balls and putting together century stands with both senior batters as India raced home inside 40 overs.

India's chase began in a sedate fashion. Rohit and Jaiswal struck a couple of boundaries while the left-hander also hit a six off Lungi Ngidi. But those were the only boundary shots in the first seven overs as the South African pacers kept it disciplined otherwise.

Rohit, who had faced only 12 balls up until then, upped the tempo by coming down the track and pulling Ngidi for a six, followed by a four each off Keshav Maharaj and Ottneil Baartman as India crossed 50 in the 11th over.

While Jaiswal's struggles continued, Rohit kept the boundaries coming, ensuring that the scoring did not stagnate as he brought up a 54-ball fifty and took India past 100 in the 20th over. This was the first century partnership by an Indian opening pair against South Africa since Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan's 127-run stand in the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Rohit put away a couple of short balls from Corbin Bosch for sixes while Jaiswal was happy to deal in singles from the other end as he entered the 40s. The left-hander got some fluency to his innings as he struck a few boundaries on either side reaching his maiden ODI fifty. Reintroduced, Baartman conceded three boundaries in an over as India crossed 150 in the 25th over.

The partnership, however, came to an end soon after as Rohit got a top-edge trying to slog-sweep Maharaj. Jaiswal quickly took over from Rohit as he entered the 90s.

Kohli played risk-free cricket at the other end, ticking away the singles while he also struck a cover drive for a four off Marco Jansen. India went past 200 in the 33rd over before the half-century stand was raised when Kohli pulled Bosch for a four, followed by a no-look six over mid wicket.

Jaiswal, meanwhile, inched closer to the three-figure mark with singles, took a couple to move to 99, before a single off Bosch helped him bring up a 111-ball hundred as he became only the sixth Indian to score hundreds in all three international formats. He went on to play a falling scoop for a six off Baartman while Kohli continued to target Bosch, pulling him for a six and a four to close in on a fifty.

Kohli brought up a 40-ball half-century – his fourth fifty-plus score in succession – with a four off Baartman and then whipped the next one for a six. A boundary for Jaiswal in the same over brought up the 100-run stand off 80 balls. Jaiswal hit a boundary off Ngidi in the 40th over before Kohli struck two back-to-back fours in the same over to finish it off in a jiffy.

Earlier, KL Rahul opted to bowl after India won the toss. Ryan Rickelton, back in the eleven in place of the injured Tony de Zorzi, came out to open but couldn't make an impact as he fell for a four-ball duck to Arshdeep Singh in the opening over, getting caught behind.

The Indian pacers kept things tight to de Kock and Temba Bavuma. The pressure eased when Prasidh came into the attack and was smashed for three sixes and a four across two overs by de Kock, who brought up a 42-ball fifty with another maximum off Ravindra Jadeja.

The boundaries came regularly as the second wicket pair raised a century stand, with Bavuma closing in on a fifty. But the South Africa skipper missed it by two runs, getting out in the 40s for the second time in as many games when he sliced the ball to Kohli at backward point off Jadeja.

De Kock closed in on a hundred as he struck a six and a four off Kuldeep and a boundary off Tilak Varma. Matthew Breetzke also hit two sixes off Tilak before Prasidh returned to the attack and changed the direction of South Africa's innings.

After a double-wicket over in which he dismissed Breetzke (LBW) and Aiden Markram (caught at cover), Prasidh also bagged the wicket of de Kock. The left-handed opener, who got to an 80-ball 100 with a six off Harshit Rana, was bowled trying to play across the line. South Africa were 199/5 in 33 overs at that stage.

Thanks to some boundaries from Dewald Brevis and Jansen, South Africa were able to regroup quickly. But Kuldeep's two-wicket over, in which he accounted for both Brevis and Jansen, set South Africa back again as they slipped to 235/7 in the 39th over.

It became 252/8 as Kuldeep picked up his third wicket, taking a catch off his own bowling to dismiss Bosch. Ngidi's stay was a short one too as Kuldeep had him trapped in front with a leg break to finish with 4 for 41. Baartman was the last to depart as he was bowled by Prasidh, who ended up with 4 for 66 as South Africa's innings ended with 13 deliveries still remaining.

Brief scores:
South Africa 270 in 47.5 overs (Quinton de Kock 106, Temba Bavuma 48; Kuldeep Yadav 4-41, Prasidh Krishna 4-66) lost to India 271/1 in 39.5 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 116*, Rohit Sharma 75, Virat Kohli 65*; Keshav Maharaj 1-44) by 9 wickets.
