Questions raised over Josh Inglis' IPL 2026 availability after INR 8.6 crore bid
There is an intriguing discrepancy regarding Josh Inglis' availability for IPL 2026. The Australian wicket-keeper secured an INR 8.6 crore bid from the Lucknow Super Giants at the auction, despite a BCCI communique stating he would be available for only four matches next season. This has raised questions within the league about potential miscommunication or a last-minute change of plans.
Punjab Kings officials are frustrated, having been forced to release Inglis just before the retention deadline after he communicated his limited availability for IPL 2026 due to his wedding on April 18 and an immediate honeymoon. They released him based on information that he would be available for only 10-14 days in late May. They now believe they did not have the full picture and intend to approach the BCCI.
At the auction, a bidding race between SunRisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants ended with LSG securing Inglis for INR 8.6 crore—a significant increase from his previous fee. It is suggested the coaching staffs of LSG and SRH were more informed than PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting.
An SRH representative commented on the situation, indicating personal plans are subject to change and that relationships could influence a player's availability. Sources now suggest Inglis might postpone his honeymoon and report for IPL duties soon after his wedding, especially given the substantial bid. LSG coach Justin Langer, also from Western Australia, is reportedly in talks with the player.
Last season, Inglis scored 278 runs in 11 games at an average of 30.88 and a strike rate of 162.6, making crucial contributions in key matches against Mumbai Indians to help Punjab Kings reach the final.
